Seth Langer (he/him) is a puppeteer, cultural heritage worker, and musician currently quarantined underground inside a Washington, D.C. basement. With a background in physical theater and arts education, Seth has spent many years sharing with children and adults the secrets of bringing objects to life, and endeavors to create transformative communal experiences, primarily through theater and music-making.
In his role at the nonprofit record label Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, he works with composers, curators, radio programmers, craftspeople, storytellers, and music nerds to provide meaningful points of connection between artists, archives, and audiences. He has performed original music and puppetry in cabarets and nightclubs, libraries and museums, public demonstrations, hot air balloon festivals, weddings, funerals, parking lots, and campgrounds. He has recently begun experimenting in video. His work explores embodiment, gesture, ritual, and the senses. He also leads movement workshops and collaborative art activities.
As an oral historian Seth looks forward to honing his skills as a listener, supporter, advocate, and world citizen. He believes strongly in the healing powers of creative expression. His love of stories began as a youth, first at the feet of his elders and relatives, and later, in darkened theaters full of strangers. He is beside himself with excitement to be learning from and alongside the extended OHMA community. Seth grew up in Atlanta and loves home movies, coincidences, twinkle lights, the smell of lavender, and sentimental mementos.
