Vy Luu (2021)

Vy Luu (pronounced like the letter “V”; she/her) is a California-transplant currently living in Brooklyn. She and her family immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam when she was seven years old to reunite with their extended family living in San Diego; since then, Vy has always been curious about her family’s history and the broader Vietnamese American story. Vy joins OHMA with the hopes that it will help her contribute to what writer Viet Thanh Nguyen calls “narrative plentitude”--where there is an abundance of stories about a community--for those who have previously been at the margins.

Prior to OHMA, Vy obtained her B.A. in Sociology with Honors in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University. After Stanford, Vy first worked in local government at the City of San Jose, and then started working in electoral politics in the 2018 cycle.

In her free time, Vy enjoys running and hiking, cooking and baking, and exploring NYC. She loves meeting new people and organizing activities/events for people to connect, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
