Courtney Scott (2019)

Nashville native Courtney Scott is a writer, storyteller, oral historian, nanny and early childhood educator. She is an Oral History Master of Arts (OHMA) graduate from Columbia University’s 2019 cohort. When not telling stories in sound, film, or words, Courtney devotes much of her time and heart to caring for young children. As a working nanny for over a decade, she is the protégé of mother-workers from across many generations and cultures. Scott’s oral history work is deeply informed by their stories, exploring themes of race, class, money, and love. Her thesis, “I am [not] your [m]other / ‘I Am Your Nanny’”, centered around the testimonies of career nannies living and working in New York, was completed in January 2021.
